Negative information only makes the news in the USA if it is both sensational enough to draw attention and distant or over sufficiently quickly that no one has to be asked to actually think about it. Climate change, which is both an immense issue beyond the relatively small mental world-space of people and a vastly complex and troubling narrative, fails both of these counts.

Do not expect major news uproar over it until the temperature changes actually begin to have a noticeable effect on daily life.

As I explained to one of my coworkers, a global change of 6 degrees on the C scale is enough that, for the short time that people might try clinging to my current surroundings, it would be more than possible to set a jar of water outside during the summer and watch it come to a boil from the ambient heat alone. This is a frightening concept - but people simply refuse to grasp that humanity might not only be responsible, but also capable of changing it, if that change would require damaging their short-term comfort.

It is, honestly, a criminal and alien viewpoint to me.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02639282483487638512noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1575603731696062553.post-19182587105114791722008-12-22T09:15:00.000-06:002008-12-22T09:15:00.000-06:00Thanks for your great post, Albert.
