If these Fortune 500 companies honestly care about global survival, it has to start by recognizing that building a brand new LEEDS Platinum skyscraper to house their human capital in comfort is still wasteful. Eating out of season food and allowing cattle to impact more than just our waistlines- methane and the new acceptable 'nutrients' added to our drinking water-still affects communities that remain unaware of long range plans made by corporate and government opportunists. When people vote with their brain and less emotion, they may realize how insane it is to allow lobbyists to make policy. Until existing regulations are publicized and companies that are damaging peoples' health and lives for profit, are held accountable- (now!) even million dollar fines will be continued to be ignored. Or, as in the past, paid as the cost of doing business.terrefirmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09786121620970285202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1575603731696062553.post-2248804240119167092016-01-25T08:09:01.059-06:002016-01-25T08:09:01.059-06:00Steve - I don't think it is just your opinion....Steve - I don't think it is just your opinion. Most, myself included, don't believe the INDPs will be met. While I agree that global depression, now underway and gathering momentum, will cut resource exploitation, it will not remove carbon from the atmosphere or de-fuse the methane timebomb. Some think this means game over, and they may be right. Others think it will force a reassessment of capitalism and a change of mission for our species. Paris opened that door, which was the surprise. People in political positions actually GOT the science. Now the question is whether anyone will walk through. Several countries have. Several large businesses -- fortune 500 types -- have. They are going beyond zero on short time frames. Microsoft, for instance, claims to be at net zero. Will it be enough? Odds are still long. Stay tuned.Albert Bateshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17627996921976501534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1575603731696062553.post-37541414081609963932016-01-24T13:59:47.228-06:002016-01-24T13:59:47.228-06:00Albert- as much as I'd love to believe your en...Albert- as much as I'd love to believe your encouraging take on Paris, my opinion is that the actions promised there will end up not being kept, especially here in the U.S. What WILL reduce our collective footprint will be a global depression as well as the end of the era of positive EROEI fossil fuels.Steve Carrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11706114439618856525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1575603731696062553.post-55045079574937190622016-01-24T11:01:49.557-06:002016-01-24T11:01:49.557-06:001 percent is halfway between nothing and 100 perce...1 percent is halfway between nothing and 100 percent in terms of doublings (seven doublings from .01 percent to 1 percent and seven more from 1 percent to reach 100 percent).

This is silly. Choose an arbitrary number of doublings and an arbitrary definition of "nothing" and any percentage is "halfway" to 100 percent. With 6 doublings the numbers are .02% and 2%. With 2 doublings the numbers are 6% and 25%.

In normal English parlance, halfway to 100% is 50%.

Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01251330546889158364noreply@blogger.com
